The South Transdanubian Regional Innovation Agency participated in the online discussion “Forward-looking Innovation Governance”, which was broadcast live on 23 September 2022, in the context of the Medtech4 Europe project.
The OECD observatory of public sector innovation (OPSI) introduced the concept of Anticipatory innovation governance, which they define as “the broad-based capacity to actively explore possibilities, experiment, and continuously learn as part of a broader governance system”. Governance must increasingly recognise the importance of adopting an approach that takes into account the complexity of policy challenges, the importance of systems thinking, and the roles of innovation and foresight linked to disruptive technologies such as automation, digitalisation, societal grand challenges (e.g. climate change, ageing) and disruptive events (e.g. Covid-19, the Ukraine war). The online discussion will explore the concept of an anticipatory innovation governance and its importance for regional policymaking.
The themes of the event covered the following areas:
- Anticipatory Innovation Governance
- Experiences from Interreg Europe good practice
- What initiatives have you taken in your region to promote Anticipatory Innovation Governance?
- Challenges and policy recommendations
Finally, the event moderators Marc Pattinson and Arnault Morisson summed up what they had heard and looked ahead to the next steps.
