The eBussed project provides technical assistance for the transition from public transport with internal combustion engines to public transport with electric bus fleets. The project covers a number of areas related to the launch and support of the development of e-bus. eBussed will focus on the exchange of experience between partner regions at different stages of the development of e-bus operations, thus serving regions struggling with this highly technical and fast developing field. As no partner region has yet fully developed its e-bus migration roadmap, new ideas, solutions and technologies can continue to be introduced into their development plans. eBussed will support the transition of European regions towards low-carbon mobility and more efficient public transport. It promotes the uptake of e-buses and supports the expansion of existing e-fleets.

Actions

The activities carried out so far along the objectives of the project and the known framework defined the directions of the preliminary actions of the Action Plan. Related activities included the identification of readiness indicators for the introduction of e-buses, the inventory of incentives and barriers as well as technological expectations, the primary analysis of regional good practices and the examination of user attitudes.

Selected actions by the results given are:

  • Reducing the environmental impact of urban and suburban bus transport,
  • Establishment of an electric charging network.

The actions selected are as follows:

Action 1: Reducing the environmental impact of urban and suburban bus transport

Based on the current development directions, the modernization of the vehicle fleet and the definition of new development goals. However, in addition to the renewal of infrastructure and equipment, there are a number of other aspects to reduce the environmental impact. The most important of these are route optimization, measurement and tracking of traveler needs, and the spread of alternative modes of sub-transport. This action aims to disseminate the knowledge needed for these transport management solutions.

Based on this, the aim of the action is to expand the knowledge of transport organization for the primary municipal and service professionals. To this end, an environmentally friendly e-bus transport center training topics and professional material will be developed. The pilot implementation of this purpose will also be realized.

Action 2: Establishment of an electric charging network

The current charging network development directions are concentrating on central charging solutions, which limits the possibilities of traffic management. For the time being, a combination of in-flight or en-route solutions and technical solutions is possible. Taking these into account will significantly improve the efficiency of e-bus public transport, thus speeding up compliance with environmental targets.

In response to the above, the aim of the action is to increase the charging efficiency of the planned fleet used and procured in public transport, thus making public transport more efficient. In the frame of the action, easily adaptable and combinable sample solutions were developed for service providers planning fleet development.

The eBussed project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Hungary.
