Medical technologies are a key sector of the future in Europe, offering solutions to reduce healthcare costs in the context of an ageing population. With the emergence of new and cross-sectoral technologies, it is one of the most innovative high-tech sectors, facing strong global competition and requiring more innovation all the time. The Medtech4 Europe Interreg Europe project offers solutions for patients and healthcare systems in the regions. As part of the programme, a webinar “Medtech4 Europe – all about healthcare” was held with the participation of the South Transdanubian Regional Innovation Agency.

The event featured five speakers on the topic. The main message of Anna Nikina-Ruohonen’s presentation was that AI skills will grow and develop in collaboration with networks, stakeholders and educational institutions.

Nina Nissilä presented different perspectives on data and its use. Ultimately, success with AI, robotics and data depends on our ability to change the way we work and think.

Heikki Peura gave a powerful presentation on HUS’ artificial intelligence projects. His presentation also highlighted the fact that data comes through devices. Therefore we need to pay more attention to tools and for example to live intelligence.

Lauri Aaltonen’s talk was a great overview of the little known brain research at Aalto University.

Laura Simik gave an insightful presentation on how regulation and ethics can ensure quality and personal care for all. The presentation also gave us an insight into what MedTech really means. Laura also mentioned sustainable development, which is of course one of the most important issues of our time.

The Medtech4 Europe project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Hungary within the Interreg Europe Program.
